Rosenstreich Memorial

Guided by her personal history with Barre, Vt and her connections to the artists who create stonework, Judy Rosenstriech reached out to me with an interest in creating her family memorial. A combination of her love for the state of Vermont, its people, her civic service and honoring her life and family we worked with Charlie Dindo of Dindo Drafting to design a memorial. He created a unique and timeless drawing for me to realize in stone. I spent over 4 months shaping the granite. Utilizing my most traditional and modern tools, the stone slowly transformed. The decisions we made together as a collective, most days Charlie joining us, grew the memorial with strength, beauty and grace. It became more than Judy’s ideas about Vermont. It became a combination and reflection of all of us as Vermonters. When my carving work was done her memorial was sent to Stone Valley Sandblast for lettering and gold leaf detail on the State house capitol dome. It is now residing in its forever space in Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier Vermont.

Tiki Amber Ward Memorial

Tiki Amber Meaker Ward, a beautiful friend and fellow artist. Before her passing in 2022 we collaborated on her memorial design. Unique and lovely, I wanted to show her as much as possible in the stone. Salisbury pink granite, light in color and one of my favorites for it’s sparkles, was chosen. As the stone was shaped I saved all the remnant pieces and made small sculptures with them to give to her loved ones; hearts, feathers and mushrooms. Tiki wanted a niche space crafted to hold trinkets so we could leave her gifts, stones, feathers and such. I took reference from her paintings to add low relief carvings along the outer edges. From bottom to top things she held dear: A paintbrush, tetra fish, jellyfish, mushrooms, flowers, moths and dragonflies all in her hand. It was a true honor and a cathartic experience creating this custom memorial. The back side contains an Amethyst crystal, her birthstone, and a poem she wrote that you can see from a quiet spot under the neighboring maple tree. She chose her spot carefully in Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier, Vermont.
